How to Check a Concrete Contractor in National City

Look up the license before you sign or pay. In California any concrete job over $1,000 in labor and materials needs a licensed contractor.

Search the License

At cslb.ca.gov you can search by license number, business name or owner's name. Make sure the license is active and the name matches the person you are dealing with.

The Right Class

The C-8 Concrete Contractor class covers forming, pouring, placing and finishing concrete. A Class B general contractor can also run a concrete job when the B holds C-8 or hires a licensed C-8 for the concrete. Our B license guide explains how. State guidance says a General Engineering (A) contractor may do concrete work that is part of public works like roads. Ask which license covers any street work.

The $1,000 Limit

Since January 1, 2025, AB 2622 sets the minor work limit at $1,000 in labor and materials. It only applies when no permit is needed and the worker hires no one.

Get It in Writing

Ask for a written contract with the size, finish, base prep, joints, cleanup, permits, and who pays any city bond or deposit. Do not pay cash to someone you cannot look up.
